THE CANADIAN CAPITAL REGION | | Ottawa, National Capital of a G7 country, and Gatineau, across the Ottawa River, are modern cities that do not conceal their 19th century origins. The location of the National Capital Region, straddling Eastern Ontario and Western Québec, provides the scene for an exciting and vibrant English and French cultural mix. Its rivers, parks and pathways provide recreational opportunities all year round, are easily accessible and serve as the background for a variety of festivals and celebrations. The Region is richly served by Museums and cultural institutions such as the Museum of Civilization, the National Gallery and the National Arts Centre. |
Government institutions such as Parliament, the Governor General’s residence, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Supreme Court of Canada are accessible to the public. In addition to the English and French character of the Region, a rich cultural mosaic exists in the area that has spawned one of the best choices of restaurants of any city in Canada. And did we mention that Ottawa is the northern terminus of the World Heritage Site Rideau Canal? | | |
